In the United States, a former bookkeeper from Jackson Hole, Wyoming, Laura Marie Means, has been sentenced to nearly four years in federal prison for a $1.48 million embezzlement and tax fraud scheme. Means was convicted of wire fraud and filing false tax returns, impacting a family-owned business. She is required to pay restitution totaling over $1.8 million to the Internal Revenue Service and her former employer. Means must self-surrender to federal prison by a specified date and will face supervised release following her prison term.

Also in the United States, an Inland Empire man pleaded guilty for his role in a crime ring that fraudulently obtained $3.5 million in COVID-19 business-relief loans under the Paycheck Protection Program. Businesses must ensure truthful and accurate loan applications and maintain compliance with Small Business Administration and lender requirements.

In California, the Financial Markets Authority issued a warning against Capitvo Inc., suspected of boilerroom investment fraud. Consumers are advised not to engage with Capitvo Inc. or its offers to protect themselves from fraudulent investment schemes.

In Rhode Island, the Public Utilities Commission approved a $28 million emergency relief plan to provide monthly credits of $20.45 for January through March 2027 to residential electricity customers under tariffs A-16 and A-60. These emergency credits will combine with other monthly credits totaling about $14 from October 2026 through March 2027. The relief plan aims to assist over 450,000 residential customers.

In France, the remaining balance of income tax for 2025 will be automatically debited from taxpayers’ bank accounts starting September 25, 2026. If the amount owed is 300 euros or less, it will be collected in one payment; if over 300 euros, taxpayers can pay in four installments. Taxpayers must ensure their bank account details are up to date in the online service "Gérer mon prélèvement à la source" and promptly report any changes in personal circumstances or income.

In Northern Ireland, United Kingdom, significant packaging reforms are underway affecting recyclability, reusability, recycled content, and environmental impact of packaging. These reforms introduce new responsibilities, reporting requirements, and potential costs for food businesses placing packaged products on the market. Businesses must prepare for changes in packaging design, comply with producer responsibility fees, and prepare for the introduction of the Deposit Return Scheme.

A security vulnerability identified as CVE-2026-87902 in WordPress has been fixed in WordPress version 7.1.2 and supported older versions. This vulnerability allowed unauthenticated remote file inclusion, potentially enabling remote code execution and unauthorized control over WordPress installations. Users are urged to upgrade their WordPress installations to version 7.1.2 or apply the security update for supported older versions as soon as possible.

In Hong Kong, the People’s Bank of China will issue 60 billion renminbi in six-month renminbi bills through the Central Moneymarkets Unit of the Hong Kong Monetary Authority. The Bank of China (Hong Kong) Limited has been appointed as the issuing and lodging agent. Tenders must be submitted on September 23, 2026, via the CMU BID platform between 9:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. The minimum tender amount is 500,000 renminbi or multiples thereof. Settlement will occur on September 28, 2026, via the renminbi real-time gross settlement system on a delivery versus payment basis.

Finally, in the United States, the Food and Drug Administration confirmed that Vital Honey products sold online and possibly in retail stores contain undeclared tadalafil, a prescription drug ingredient. Consumers are advised not to purchase or use Vital Honey products. Health professionals and consumers should report any adverse events related to these products to the FDA's MedWatch program.
